Client Platform Engineering Senior Manager

General Motors (GM)

Remote (Gm Global Technical Center - Michigan It Innovation Center, USA) today
Role Details

Job Description

The Role

General Motors is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation in the EV realm. Our Software Services team is on the forefront of this work, emboldening our culture by seeking out determined, innovative individuals who will join our team to help move us forward and achieve our mission.

The Senior Manager, Client Platform Engineering leads the team that manages endpoints across macOS, Windows, Linux, and VDI to keep them secure, standardized, and easy to use. The role focuses on streamlined provisioning and secure, direct-to-app access so employees can be productive from anywhere, on any device.

You’ll own the strategy, roadmap, and delivery of our client platform: how devices are built, secured, managed, and updated at scale. Your team builds the tooling, automation, and standards that power our enduser experience — from zerotouch provisioning to secure access to critical apps without clunky VPNs.

This is an engineering heavy role (think platforms and automation, not “help desk”), working closely with Security, Networking, Infra, and Support.

What You’ll Do

Strategy & Ownership

  • Define the longterm client platform strategy across macOS, Windows, Linux, and VDI.

  • Own endpoint lifecycle: image/config design, provisioning, patching, compliance, and decommissioning.

  • Drive standardization of base images, configurations, and policies while keeping things userfriendly and delightful.

  • Support the move toward modern, cloudfirst management and zerotrust, directtoapp access, advocating AI-first behavior into team and org-wide fabric.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a Client Platform Engineering team (engineers / admins / tech leads).

  • Set goals, priorities, and operating rhythms (backlog, sprints, oncall, incident reviews).

  • Build a culture of automation-first, reliability, and security with strong partnership across IT and Security.

Engineering & Operations

  • Own and optimize endpoint management platforms (e.g., Intune/Endpoint Manager, Jamf, or similar).

  • Implement automated, zero or lowtouch provisioning for laptops and VDI.

  • Build and maintain configuration as code for device policies, profiles, and baselines.

  • Design and run patching and software update strategies to hit aggressive compliance targets.

  • Partner with Security to deploy and operationalize:

  • EDR / AV / DLP

  • Disk encryption

  • Device compliance and posture checks

  • Local admin and privilege controls

  • Work with Network / Security to implement secure, direct-to-app access patterns (e.g., ZTNA, device posture, appbased access instead of fulltunnel VPN).

  • Own the deployment and lifecycle of core client apps (productivity suites, collaboration tools, browsers, agents).

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Maintain hardened, auditable baselines for endpoints and VDI images.

  • Ensure platforms align with internal security policies and relevant frameworks.

  • Provide technical input for audits, risk assessments, and incident response involving endpoints.

  • Maintain highquality documentation (runbooks, standards, diagrams, FAQs, selfservice guides).

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Act as the primary owner for all things client platform for security, infra, support, and business stakeholders.

  • Translate business needs into platform capabilities and phased roadmaps.

  • Communicate changes and impact clearly to both technical and nontechnical audiences.

  • Manage vendors and tooling, including evaluations, renewals, and escalations.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 8+ years in endpoint / client engineering, enduser computing, or related infrastructure roles.

  • 4+ years leading engineers or acting as a technical lead with ownership of a platform or service.

  • Handson experience managing macOS, Windows, Linux, and VDI in an enterprise environment.

  • Deep expertise with multiple modern endpoint management platforms (e.g., Intune/Endpoint Manager, Jamf, SCCM/ConfigMgr, Workspace ONE, etc.).

  • Strong background in:

  • OS imaging / provisioning and device enrollment

  • Patch management and update strategies

  • Scripting & automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar)

  • Endpoint security (EDR, DLP, disk encryption, compliance policies)

  • Identity & access integration on endpoints (Azure AD/Entra ID, SSO, conditional access)

  • Proven ability to design and operate at scale (thousands of devices, multiple OSes, multiple regions).

  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working with security, infra, and business partners.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience running global or multiregion client platforms.

  • Track record implementing zerotrust / device posture / directtoapp access patterns.

  • Experience with VDI/DaaS platforms (Citrix, VMware Horizon, AVD, etc.).

  • Familiarity with configuration-as-code / infrastructure-as-code workflows (Git, CI/CD for config).

  • Experience managing budgets, licensing, and vendor relationships for endpoint tools.

What Success Looks Like

  • New hires get a fully configured device and access to their apps with minimal manual effort.

  • High patch and compliance rates across macOS, Windows, Linux, and VDI with minimal disruption.

  • Fewer endpoint incidents and escalations, more selfservice and automation.

  • Strong partnership with Security and Infra on zerotrust and modern management.

  • A high-performing, engaged team that ships improvements regularly and reliably.

  • Ongoing delight / experience metric: a lightweight recurring signal that employees can get work done without friction (devices stay fast/stable, apps open reliably, access is seamless, and help is easy when needed). Basically an “It Just Works” pulse.

Senior ML Compiler Engineer

General Motors (GM)

Remote (Gm Automation - Sunnyvale - Gm Automation - Sunnyvale, USA) today

$128,700 - $261,300

Role Details

Job Description

Aboutthe Mission

GM’s vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion guides everything we do in autonomous and assisted driving. The AV organization is building advanced automated driving technologies, including Level 4–capable fully self-driving systems, to move us toward safer, more sustainable, and more accessible mobility.

For the AI Kernels & Compilers team, that mission shows up in the details: turning cutting‑edge perception, prediction, and planning research into production‑grade software that can run efficiently and reliably on real vehicles at scale. We pioneer new approaches to model export, kernel development, and performance engineering so that every cycle on our accelerators translates into better situational awareness, faster reaction times, and more robust behavior on the road.

If you want your compiler and kernels work to directly influence how automated vehicles understand and react to the world — while operating at the safety, reliability and scale of a company like GM — this is where that impact becomes real.

About the Team

The AI Compiler team sits at the heart of how advanced AI models make it onto the car. We own the compiler that turns high‑level models into fast, reliable inference across GPUs powering GM’s next‑generation autonomous and assisted driving features.

Our work spans graph lowering, operator coverage, kernel integration, and deployment tooling, with a mandate to squeeze every millisecond out of on‑vehicle workloads while preserving correctness and robustness in real‑world conditions. We partner closely with AI Deployments, AI Solutions, Runtime, and AI Kernels teams to co‑design a platform that enables new ideas in research to be quickly and safely shipped to production fleets.

You’ll join a group of deep compiler, systems, and GPU engineers who enjoy working on hard problems, and diving into MLIR/ONNX and CUDA/TensorRT internals. We value clear thinking, strong engineering fundamentals, and a culture where people can do the best work of their careers on problems that directly shape the future of automated driving.

The Role

As a Senior Compiler Engineer on the AI Kernels & Compilers team, you will work on the compilation stack that takes high‑level models and turns them into highly optimized inference artifacts running on GM’s autonomous and assisted driving platforms. You’ll be a key contributor to a pipeline and tooling that makes that path fast, reliable, and effortless for ML engineers across the AV organization to compile their models.

You will work on an evolving a state-of-the-art model export and compilation pipeline—from capturing high‑level model graphs, through intermediate representations and compiler transforms, into accelerator‑specific inference engines and their integration with our runtime— so that we can simultaneously optimize compilation throughput, model fidelity, and on‑vehicle latency. Along the way, you’ll build robust tooling to validate numerical correctness, detect and bisect performance regressions, and surface clear, actionable diagnostics back to model authors.

If you want to work at the intersection of compilers, performance engineering, and real‑world autonomy, this role puts your decisions directly on the critical path of what runs on the car.

What you’ll be doing (Responsibilities)

  • Build and evolve the model compilation toolchain used to deploy large‑scale perception, prediction, and planning models to the AV.

  • Architect new compiler passes and analysis that improve build times, memory footprint, and runtime latency while preserving—or intentionally trading off—fidelity under strict safety and reliability constraints.

  • Collaborate closely with kernels, runtime, and hardware teams to co‑design interfaces, shape accelerator capabilities, and ensure the compiler exposes the right abstractions to unlock peak performance on each platform.

  • Set standards and best practices for model export, validation, and debugging so that AV teams can iterate quickly with clear, reproducible performance and accuracy characteristics.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 3+ years of experience in the field of compilers

  • Experience with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX) and software stack (e.g., ONNX, MLIR, XLA, TVM, TensorRT, etc)

  • Expertise in writing production quality Python/C++ code

  • Expertise in the software development life-cycle - coding, debugging, optimization, testing, integration

  • BS, or higher degree, in CS/CE/EE, or equivalent

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience building and optimizing ONNX‑based model export and deployment pipelines

  • GPU programming (CUDA) and familiarity with ML SW stack (e.g., cuDNN, cuBLAS)

  • Experience with ML accelerators and hardware architecture

  • Experience developing and deploying machine learning models
