Automation Maintenance Technician (6PM to 6AM)

Based in New Albany, Ohio, the site of Amgen’s new advanced product assembly and packaging plant. In this role you will provide technical engineering support on all system/equipment optimization strategies, upgrades, replacements, and modifications. You will evaluate and determine if utility systems, process maintenance, instrumentation/ calibration/electrical systems and technical cleaning systems are maintained in compliance with all applicable industry standards, regulatory standards and FDA standards in the Inspection and Packaging area.
The work schedule for this role will be a first shift schedule (Monday through Friday, approximately 6:30 am to 3:00 pm) for 1-2 months and then move to a 12 hour PM 2-2-3 shift schedule. As the facility moves into operation, the successful incumbent will be expected to join a shift team structure working to support coverage across Amgen’s 24-hour operations. These shift structures can be a great opportunity to better support individual work/life priorities in Non-Standard Shifts structure.
Responsibilities:
- Take part in the coordination of tech support on engineering, regulatory, compliance, calibration, quality, microbial/environmental, technical cleaning, validation, electrical and process automation issues.
- Assist during regulatory agency inspections. Provide technical support in response to the FDA and other regulatory agencies.
- Complete advanced maintenance activities or operate and monitor sophisticated plant support equipment in accordance with CFRs, cGMPs, SOPs, job plans and Amgen policies. Investigate complex issues or problems through the mentorship of experienced staff.
- Assist the team with maintaining an up-to-date working spare parts inventory system for the equipment/systems the team.
- Evaluate the current maintenance procedures and assist in the changes to optimize the maintenance program, trouble shoot and repair equipment/system failures.
- Interpret and review utility, process system/ equipment, plumbing, ductwork plans, architectural, and HVAC P&ID’s.
- Support Operations in Non-Standard shifts that includes weekends and/or holidays as determined by business.

Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer – Manufacturing Systems and Integrated Technologies

In this vital role, you will be a part of our Clinical and Commercial Manufacturing Operations Technology team, driving the operation, refinement, and integration of cutting-edge manufacturing applications. This role is an excellent opportunity to gain an understanding of Amgen’s key manufacturing systems, working with various MCS (Manufacturing and Clinical Supply) business partners to ensure products to patients by managing and supporting key computerized systems such as MES (Manufacturing Execution System), Clinical Label Printing and Packaging, PI Data Historian, Instrument Data Acquisition (IDA) and other integrated systems.
As a member of our team, you'll be the driving force behind our mission to deliver high-quality products efficiently and effectively. This role will be responsible for managing the MES platform and associated integrations for the ATO site. In addition to supporting key manufacturing operations, you will work closely with the Global Instrument Data Acquisition (IDA) team to drive a Global MES Standardization effort across all Amgen manufacturing locations. This includes ensuring seamless integration of instrument data, implementing standardized MES processes and protocols, and collaborating with global stakeholders to align best practices and compliance requirements. Responsibilities:
- Support key TCT manufacturing systems by driving operational stability and continuous improvements across Building 7, B20, B23, and the ATO site.
- Manage key system integrations, both existing and new, to streamline manufacturing operations.

In this dynamic role, as a member of the Amgen Manufacturing and Clinical Supply (MCS) – Facilities & Engineering (F&E) Automation team, you will lead a team of engineers supporting Clinical & Commercial Plant Automation programs and Capital projects, including complex and challenging automation initiatives that require a solid understanding of various automation platforms, integration between different platforms, analytical problem-solving techniques, project management, product lifecycle management, and operational excellence. You are accountable for the platform’s architecture, lifecycle strategy, compliance posture, reliability, and long-term sustainability in alignment with enterprise standards. - Define, evolve, and document the North Carolina site DeltaV platform architecture (controllers, servers, HMI, virtualization, redundancy, and network topology) and develop a site-level roadmap aligned with enterprise direction.
- Serve as the site decision authority for DeltaV platform changes, lifecycle prioritization, and risk acceptance in coordination with enterprise stakeholders.

Associate Director, Reinforcement Learning (ML)

In this vital role you will lead Amgen’s strategy and execution for Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) and related reinforcement learning approaches across R&D, medical, operations, and commercial use cases. This role requires deep technical expertise in RLHF and modern machine learning, combined with strong leadership capabilities in stakeholder management, cross-functional collaboration, and organizational influence. Roles & Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of RLHF systems including reward modeling, policy optimization, safety and alignment mechanisms, and evaluation frameworks for large language models and other AI systems.
- Drive hands-on technical execution, particularly for high-impact projects, reviewing architectures, experimentation plans, and code, and helping the team navigate scientific and engineering trade-offs.
- Establish best-practice pipelines for human feedback, partnering closely with internal customer teams to define feedback protocols, annotation quality standards, and governance for RLHF data.

Manufacturing Systems Engineer: Automation - PLC
What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. As a Manufacturing Systems Engineer, you will work with a group of automation engineers who are responsible for building and maintaining various automation systems and platforms that support the GMP Drug Substance Plant Operations.
In this vital role as a member of the Facilities & Engineering (F&E) Automation team you will work hand in hand with the capital project team to deliver robust automation systems to operate the new plant utility and standalone systems. This includes sophisticated and challenging system automation initiatives that require understanding of various automation platforms, integration between different platforms, analytical problem-solving techniques, project management, lifecycle management and Operational Excellence.
- Develop and maintain automation solutions using various PLC's such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, etc. and integration with the Emerson DeltaV system.
- Develop and maintain Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA), Trailblazer reporting system, and equipment PLC’s and interface hardware.
- Support standalone system implementation and start-up, participate and provide technical guidance in the control panel / Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) layout and design including power distribution, grounding requirements, I/O assignments, etc.
- Work with process subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand key process requirements and transform them into digital automated solutions.

Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer: Automation
What you will do

As a Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer, you will provide automation technical leadership to a group of automation engineers who are responsible for building and maintaining various automation systems and platforms that support the GMP Drug Substance Plant Operations.
In this vital role as a member of the Facilities & Engineering (F&E) Automation team you will work hand in hand with the capital project team to deliver robust process automation systems to operate the new plant. This includes complex and challenging system automation initiatives that require solid understanding of various automation platforms, integration between different platforms, analytical problem-solving techniques, project management, lifecycle management and Operational Excellence.
- Develop and maintain the process control system on Emerson DeltaV distributed control system (DCS).
- Work with process subject matter experts (SMEs) to understand key process requirements and transform them into digital automated solutions.
- Collaborate with business partners to understand how automation can improve workflow and productivity. Synthesize requirements from clients, customers or end-users to develop the best automation solutions.
- Provide clear documentation for delivered solutions and processes; work closely with QA partners while supporting computerized systems validation processes in a GxP environment. Maintain Data Integrity Assessments with the current Amgen and Industry standards.
- Build the business processes to support the project scope in alignment with project timelines. Develop detailed specification and engineering policies and procedures that affect multiple organizational units.
- Support commissioning and qualification efforts including Automation Installation Verification/Automation Check Out (IV/ACO) in a fast-paced environment.
